Immigration

THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY.

America was founded based on providing opportunities and fairness for all who chose to settle here. The Land of Opportunity: In America, you could achieve success and ensure your livelihood through hard work. I was simple. It was the American Dream. It is our responsibility to keep that dream alive.

Most immigrants who have come here recently have done so to provide better lives for themselves and their children, just as waves of European immigrants did throughout the last two centuries. They are risk-takers and they are committed to hard work. With legal status, they will be able to contribute to our economy as taxpayers, consumers, workers, business owners, and innovative minds. The current immigration system is not broken, but is in dire need of some serious overhaul. An estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants are living in the shadows, and by better estimates close to 1 million visa holders are living with uncertainty. These two groups have something in common, no realistic path to citizenships. The time to fix this antiquated system is long overdue.

I support and favor passage of an immigration reform package that commits the resources needed to update and restructure our current guest worker and visa system, provides legalization outline for individuals who are already here – inclusive of our DREAMers who arrived in the U.S. as young children who grew up in America as Americans, lacking only proper legal status.
